I'm a former Harvard Law student looking to make some extra money during the school year. I tutored the LSAT in New York before moving here for school. My students regularly posted gains of ten or fifteen points even from a prior test they had studied for. One student actually tutored for Kaplan after scoring a 164. After working with me, she scored a 172. Another student had scored a 160 and a 161. After working with me, he scored a 174.
The LSAT is the most important part of the law school admissions process. Your score will have a huge effect on what schools you are able to attend. Even if you have already picked a law school, a top-level LSAT score can net you a merit-based scholarship, sometimes for full tuition and even room and board.
As an LSAT tutor, I combine the personal approach I learned as a college writing tutor with the deep understanding I have of LSAT tools and concepts. We will not go over anything you already have a grasp on. Our foundation will be in basic LSAT reasoning (sufficient and necessary conditions, positive and normative statements, distinctions like none/one/some/most/all, etc.). We will supplement that with specific tricks to manage specific question types (for example, "pre-phrasing" in certain Logical Reasoning questions). My emphasis will not be on training you to repeat a rote mechanical process like the test prep companies - although we can certainly do that! Rather, we will try and garner a more innate understanding of the kinds of thought the LSAT requires so that the correct answers "jump out" at you.
Transportation may be extra but is negotiable; I am located on the Red Line.
