Hi, my name is Ping - a bilingual tutor (English/Chinese mandarin)

Being a private tutor requires many particular personal traits to provide well customized teaching service. I am convinced that I possess all those traits. I am an extremely responsible, detail-oriented and very organized person. Using interesting samples to demonstrate a difficult concept is my strength.

Math was always my best subject. I won the Bronze medal in the National Olympic Math Contest (primary section) in China. I taught my niece math and English by chance in the summer of 2004. What surprised me was she really made big progress. After that, my relatives started to ask me to teach their children. The outcome depended in part on the student's very basic math skills and effort. Basically, I am able to predict my teaching outcome through the first conversation with the student.

In February, 2011, I came to America to start my new life - having to attend an American college as a full-time student. During 2011 fall semester, I taught three students College Algebra. In 2012 Spring semester, I put so much effort to teach a woman who struggled with Algebra. I even spent two days tutoring her nonstop before her final, because it helped her pass her class!

Currently, my students are limited to my classmates who know my grades and trust me. However, my dream is to teach more broad math subjects by introducing the Chinese math learning methods, such as Multiplication Tables. I would like to teach the math concepts and skills rather than formulas. Remembering formulas might help you pass all tests, but it's not the best path to a high grade.

Besides math, I am also available in Chinese (Mandarin), MS-Excel, Finance Accounting.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

In America, my major was Accounting. I had Financial Accounting 1 and 2, Intermediate Accounting 1 and 2, and Managerial Accounting--all As.

I also got my Chinese Accounting certificate in 2004.

Algebra 1

Math was always my best subject. I won the Bronze medal in the National Olympic Math Contest (primary section) in China.

I taught my niece and three relatives' kids high school math from 2004 to 2006.

I taught four students College Algebra from 2011 to 2012.

I had all As in college level math subjects- College Algebra, Statistics, Calculus in Economics

Chinese

I am a native Chinese-mandarin speaker. I came to America in February, 2011. From Feb. 2011-May 2011, I was a Chinese tutor in an English language school in Marlborough.

Economics

My major is Accounting with minor in Economics. I received all As in my Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, International Economics and Calculus in Economics.

I was approved by my school to be an Economics tutor in our Academic Center, but I didn't take the job because it required me to stay on campus most of the time during the weekdays that I just couldn't do it.

Geometry

Math was always my best subject. I won the Bronze medal in the National Olympic Math Contest (primary section) in China.

I taught my niece and three relatives' kids high school math (including Plane Geometry, Solid Geometry, Algebra and basic Statistics) from 2004 to 2006.

I had all As in college level math subjects- College Algebra, Statistics, Calculus in Economics

Microsoft Excel

I am at the advanced level in MS-EXCEL. I had been using Excel for 10 years in China at work.

In my school, the course 'Business Analytical Techniques' was mainly about Excel. I got an A.

Prealgebra

I am currently tutoring a student in SAT math and another student in trigonometry. I also have one year of experience teaching college algebra in America. Prealgebra is a lower level class than college algebra, so I am convinced I can tutor this subject.

SAT Math

I am currently tutoring a student in SAT math and another student in trigonometry. I also have one year of experience teaching college algebra in America.

Math has always been my best subject. Undergraduate level math is very simple for me.

Trigonometry

I am currently tutoring a student Trigonometry.
