I am a Massachusetts-licensed teacher for general curriculum (all elementary school subjects) as well as middle and high school mathematics. As a high school valedictorian with a 3.85 GPA in college and a Masters degree in Business and Organizational Behavior at Brigham Young University, I know what it takes to excel academically. I am also a published writer.
Perhaps more important to you is whether I can create strong emotional rapport with your child and actually help one that has perhaps struggled in school and maybe lost a measure of his or her self-confidence as a result. I know how to do this because I've done it.
I have tutored a high school junior with emotional and learning style difficulties who needed help with writing projects for his English Literature class at Boston Latin, a prestigious exam school. Coming from well behind in his classes, he was able to graduate.
I also tutored a 3rd-grade African-American boy with sickle cell disease who therefore missed many school days and needed home-based instruction and help with both math and reading skills assignments. We got along famously, as his mother will tell you, and he advanced in all subjects.
Finally, I tutored a high school sophomore from a Boston urban school who missed many school days because of leukemia and needed support with her Algebra II, Biology and English Language Arts classes. She earned near straight-A’s with my help.
I am also licensed in Special Education to work with children who have moderate learning disabilities as well as those who are English Language Learners from other cultures. (By the way, I speak German!)
I firmly believe that every child of any age can learn and progress in the right circumstances, and I know how to create those circumstances. All I need is a supportive parent and a student who is willing to try. Working together we will succeed!
