I am a certified math teacher for both middle school and high school. I have taught pre-algebra, algebra 1 and algebra 2, and geometry. I also teach a robotics course. My other interests are golf, sailing, watching football, and travel. I have previous experience as a Wall Street investment analyst and as the owner of a manufacturing company. Those experiences enable me to make math more relevant with real world examples. My students do extremely well on MCAS.
My tutoring approach starts with a brief discussion with the student, followed by a brief diagnostic quiz. I zero in on the problem areas, and design a plan of action. We would usually plan on a two part lesson. The first part is "putting out fires" (getting ready for an upcoming test). The second phase of each lesson is to work on conceptual understanding of of foundation material. An example: If an algebra student solve equations incorrectly because of an inability to perform arithmetic operations with fractions, we work on fractions.
