My name is Julia and I teach adults and children who are learning English as a Second Language or who are studying for their TOEFL examination. I have the training and experience to help you improve your fluency.
I received my B.A in Latin American Studies with a minor in Spanish at Boston University in May 2012. I also received my Certification for English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), which is an intensive English as a Second Language teaching course accredited by Cambridge University. During my teaching practices for the CELTA, I taught a class of 17 multilingual learners at the upper intermediate level. I also taught a class of 10 students at the pre-intermediate level. I am currently employed as a TOEFL preparation instructor in a Boston language school.
I am an enthusiastic, engaging teacher with experience as a literacy tutor with both adults and children at the Intergenerational Literacy Program in Chelsea, MA. I tutored adults studying for their high school equivalency exams. I also worked with children who were English language learners to develop literacy and fluency skills.
I use various materials in my lessons including activity books, authentic texts and games. I speak Spanish and I also understand a little French and some Brazilian Portuguese.
