Hello my name Jonathan and I am a recent chemical engineering graduate at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I would like to help students understand science and mathematics, which are my two favorite subjects. I used to be a tutor at Lowell High School and during my freshman year of college. I would like to learn how kids look at the problem so I can be more helpful developing them an technique for problem solving. For the subjects I tutor, I like the kids to use scrap paper so they can look at their work, especially if they are stuck on a different problem they can always look back on the scrap paper. Once they feel very comfortable understanding the material, I will give them a quiz to see how well they know the material.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I took the ACTs twice and the section I had my best success in was in math. I also took courses like algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and trigonometry in high school; so I have good understanding of the material that will be on the ACTs.

I took Algebra 1 freshman year of high school. It was one of my favorite courses. In Algebra one, you solve for the variable in the equation. For example 80= 5x +20, where x would equal 12.

I took algebra 2 in my junior year of high school. Algebra 2 is more advanced than algebra 1, but the problems are still about solving for the missing variable.

I took biology junior year of high school. Biology is a science based on memorization, when I took biology I had to read and re-read the text book.

I am currently a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering at UMass Lowell. I took a few main courses like Energy Balances and Intro to Thermodynamics, Material Balances, and Fundamentals of Electricity.

I took economics my senior year of high school and as a freshman in college. In economics, you learn how the business works. The main things you need to know are profit and efficiency.

I took geometry in my sophomore year of high school. In geometry, you need to know how to solve the area, angle, and length of given the shape.

I took physical science in middle school and a little bit in high school. Physical science has a little of every science combined in one. I also use to be tutor students in physics, chemistry and biology in Lowell High School two years ago.

I have taken physics in both freshman year of high school and college. Physics is the science that is based on mathematics and a little memorization. You have to know certain laws like Newton's law for example. Also you need to know the formulas so that you can be able to solve problems.

I took prealgebra in eighth grade. Prealgebra is just learning the basics before getting into algebra. For example, 20= 10-5 + x.

I have taken precalculus a little in high school and calculus I freshman year of college. In precalculus, you solve problems by using derivatives.

I have taken the SAT twice. Mathematics was the section I scored the highest out of the three. Even though every SAT is different, the material is still the same. The mathematics section has algebra and geometry. I will help the students by teaching how to solve the problem and also by process of elimination (since SAT are all multiple choice).

I have taken Trigonometry in my senior year of high school. In trigonometry you need to know how to interpret graph and finding the limits on the graphs.
