Hi. My name is Katherine and I have been an Elementary Education teacher for over seven years. In my classroom everyday, our motto is that "happiness is a choice." Since I have chosen teaching as my second career, tutoring has been one of the most fulfilling areas of my job since it always brings results! My favorite part of being a teacher is being able to work one-on-one with my students, in small group settings, or in my before/after school programs where I really focus on what each student needs, whether it's more challenging work, or more clarification. In the last two years, I have been teaching fourth grade, and I have expert skills in teaching Reading, Writing and Math curriculum based on fourth graders taking the MCAS in those subjects. Last year, I ran an enrichment "Drama Club" program for students after school, which was a great hit. I have also taught third, fifth, second, and first grades, and did my student teaching in sixth grade Math. In my current position, I work in an in urban school setting, where I have special education student inclusion in my regular classroom, and over 75% of ELL students. While I was studying to get my master's, I worked full-time as a one-on-one special education paraprofessional for three years with elementary students of varying disabilities (in the local school that my twins attended). I feel strongly that my elementary education expertise, coupled with my flexibility and positive attitude, can focus your child toward greater success. Additionally, last year my twin boys entered college, so I also have a great handle on SAT Prep in Reading/Writing. As my everyday mantra goes, "happiness is a choice." I try and empower students with skills and knowledge, and therefore, set them up for success.
