Professional Reading Tutor --Building a Lasting Foundation

Hello,

I'd like to help you or your child in one or more of the following areas of Reading: Phonology, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension or SAT prep. I am a certified Orton Gillingham Reading Interventionist/tutor as well as a certified English teacher and Reading Specialist. I have 10 years experience helping children with language based reading difficulties learn to read. In that time I have been fortunate to see children who began with no real reading skills, gain skill, confidence, and motivation for continuing to learn to read and read to learn. The younger a child begins to get help, the faster the improvement. The older the child is, the longer it will take. So it's good to begin as soon as you can, but it's never too late either!

I also have expertise to coach students in grammar and writing skills for essays, writing and research, and also for improved performance on standardized tests like the Verbal SAT.

I have 16 years' experience as a high school English teacher.

Grammar

My background in English is so thorough that one of my colleagues has referred to me as a "Grammar Guru!" I have a solid background originating in Catholic Grammar School as well as a linguist's and poet's appreciation for the structure of language. One of my goals is to help students see the common sense connections that are there in grammar. Grammar is not the enemy! On the contrary, with good instruction, it opens students eyes to understanding how words and sentences all fit together.

Reading

My background in Reading covers a number of different areas. I am a certified Reading Specialist and a former HS English Teacher. Writing

I able able to help children with beginning manuscript/printing and cursive writing for older children. I use Handwriting Without Tears materials which are structured and child friendly.

In addition, I am able to help your older child learn how to write/compose on the sentence, paragraph and essay level. My background includes teaching Writing Process in both public and private school settings to older students. I also have completed coursework in Project Read's Writing Strand.

My experience in English covers expertise in grammar, spelling, writing, and all areas of reading. I am a former high school English teacher and am a certified Reading Specialist in MA.

SAT Reading
