I am currently a full-time, certified, dynamic music teacher working in the Jamaica Plain area. I spend my time teaching elementry school music and directing the band, but I am also a trumpeter/pianist with experience in jazz, classical, pop, and ska bands. I have composed for many different ensembles, and my pieces have been performed in Michigan and Massachusetts at concerts, recitals, and jazz festivals. I have taught private lessons to dozens of students (bith children and adults) on trumpet, piano, trombone, flue, saxophone, and bass guitar. I specialize in beginners. Because I teach at the elementary level, I have hundreds of hours of experience working with student with zero music background. This has led me at specialize in work with beginners. Composition (Music)

I have done a great deal of composing throughout college. I have also composed and performed pieces for several college ensembles and my beginning band. It continues to be a hobby and a love of mine.

Ear Training

I took 3 ear training courses in college. These courses focused on melodic ear training, chord progression training, and sight singing. Also, working in an elementary school has given me countless hours of experience using my ear training.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked as a general music teacher in Southbridge, MA for 3 years. It is a full time position teaching 30 classes per week. Here I have taught singing, instrument playing, history, notation, theory, and dancing. It has been an amazing experience.

General Music

Teaching general music is where I have the most experience. I have taught over 1,000 general music classes, and I have become very comfortable in that role. I have taught singing, dancing, history, games, recorders, notation, and theory. I can take on any role as it relates to teaching general music.

Music History

For a few years now, I have taught a history of pop music in my elementary school. It has been a program for the older students that follows the course of modern popular music from it's beginnings in American jazz and blues in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The course has been very successful. Also, I have taken 4 courses on the history of Classical music. These courses started with Gregorian chant and led to modern, atonal, and electronic music.

Piano

I have played piano as a part of my music education since high school. More recently, I have been an accompanist as part of my general music and band classes. This has really allowed me to improve my sight-reading ability.

Flute

I started playing the flute in college, and it has been a major hobby of mine since. Because of my background teaching beginning band and performing on the trumpet, I have been able to pick it up and learn to perform very well on it. I am comfortable teaching flute to all beginners, adult or child.

Trumpet

Trumpet performance was my main instrument all through my education, and it was my minor in college. I have played it for 17 years, and I feel comfortable playing and teaching any style in any capacity to anyone, beginner or advanced. I have taught hundreds of lessons on this instrument.

I travel all over the state, and I am willing to travel to you. I would have to up the rate if your place is far from Jamaica Plain, but I am willing to make the drive.
