Hi Everyone~

I am a Massachusetts Certified Teacher for K-12 students. I also hold teaching licenses in Math (MTEL Exam #53), as well as Business and History. I have 10 years of experience teaching in the greater Boston area public school systems. I also have taught Economics at the college level in Boston and at ITT Technical School in Norwood, Ma.

While I specialize in Math (specifically Geometry & Algebra), I'm also very good at teaching test prep material, such as the SAT's, as well as teaching "test taking skills".

I believe every student has unique learning skills. Some are analytic while others are more visual or creative learners. My experience from teaching students of all ages has allowed me to be more adaptable to all types of students.

Even though it's a cliche, I strongly believe that learning should be fun. Also, no matter what the subject is, I try to relate the ideas & concepts to real life applications.

I look forward to working with you & helping you achieve your goals in education!

Sincerely,
Evelyn L.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have in the past, and am currently working with students who are ADD/ADHD. It requires more patience and experience to successfully tutor these students. My methods include (1) determining what type of learning module works best with the student; i.e. Are they a visual learner?

Also, it is extremely important to spend extra time upfront, before teaching any lessons, in order to build Trust with the student.

Only after a certain level of trust is achieved, with both the student and the parent/guardian, then one can successfully work with ADD/ADHD students.

Business

I currently hold the Mass. Teacher's license for Business. I have also spent 25 years in corporate America & then working for myself as a small business owner.

Economics

I hold a B.A. in Economics from Wellesley College, as well as an M.B.A. in Finance from Boston University.

I have taught both Macro & Micro Economics at the college level, as an Adjunct Professor.
I have also taught Macro & Micro Economics at ITT Technical Institute.

Elementary (K-6th)

I currently hold a Massachusetts Teacher's license, I have taken and successfully passed the Massachusetts Teacher's Education License test for grades K-12. I also hold a MA teacher's license in both Business and History for the K-12 level.

I have been teaching (since 2006) in the Boston public school system, the Lexington public school system, and now the Hull public school system.

My experience teaching in these 3 school systems was/is in both the K-6th and Middle School level. I am currently working as a substitute teacher at the middle school level.

ISEE

I am currently tutoring students for the ISEE exam and have successfully tutored students in the past for the ISEE exam. I have thoroughly reviewed the ISEE exam format materials from the only official version on the ISEE website. I have even personally completed all the practice questions and answers on the sample exam!

Additionally, I have researched the primary and important differences between the ISEE and the SSAT exams. I have researched the ISEE's scoring system and understand its complexities. I have done so in order to better advise students and their parents as to which exam may be more suitable for their circumstances.

Marketing

I have an MBA and spent 20 years working in the marketing division of several high profile financial services companies. I was a vice president in the marketing department for several financial services firms over the past 25 years.

MTLE

I have successfully passed three (3) MTLE exams, including the General Curriculum, the Business exam, and the Social Sciences Exam. I hold all 3 MA Teaching licenses currently. I have specific review materials and resources for the General Curriculum Math exam.

Painting

While I was in high school, I was chosen for an exclusive painting program at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. I participated in that program after school during my sophomore year.
Also, at Wellesley College, I took 2 years of studio art (including painting), and 1 year
(2 semesters) of art history.

Public Speaking

I joined Toastmasters public speaking class while I was working in the marketing & sales department of New England. Throughout my 25 years of corporate experience, I continued to work in the marketing & sales departments of several financial services companies. I gave speeches & presentations to stockbrokers, financial planners & insurance salesmen throughout my career. My audience ranged from 12 people to 200+ people. The larger groups were my audience at multiple national industry conferences. I continued to take follow up public speaking courses offered through my companies.

Reading

I am a certified reading tutor & enjoy teaching younger students. In addition, I scored in the top percentile for reading in the SATs and PSATs.

Social Studies

I have taken and successfully passed the Massachusetts Teachers Educators License (MTEL) exam for Social Studies & History.
I have taught Social Studies in the Boston Public school system, the Lexington public school system and (currently) in the Hull public school system (K-12).
Also, I have taken and passed WyzAnt's Certification exams for both American History and Government and Politics.

Study Skills

I am well qualified to tutor "Study Skills" as I have advised/coached many of my students personally. I have taught students how to approach large projects by breaking them down into monthly, weekly, and daily routines.
I am also a MA certified teacher who has spent over 25 years in corporate training. I have developed study plan curriculum for multiple training programs.

I have also created a syllabus for every course that I have taught as an Adjunct Professor. I've worked one-on-one with my students to help them prepare their own study plan modules.
