I completed my bachelor's degree and a year of graduate studies in the Civil Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). While there I worked as a graduate teaching assistant for three semesters. I encountered a wide range of learning styles and interests. I occasionally tutored students through my undergraduate years, and was the only official tutor hired by my high school to hold office hours for students requiring extra guidance in math.
While at WPI I realized that I was passionate about teaching for several reasons: I enjoy getting to know my students and helping them to grow and understand new concepts - it can open a whole new, exciting world! I enjoy the opportunity to communicate with my students and learn about different lifestyles, cultures and worldviews. I am also grateful for the many teachers who had positive impacts in my life, and I strive to pass that on to my students. In light of these revelations, I decided to become a tutor and start the process toward certification as a full-time teacher.
My students say I am talented at meeting them where they are at, guiding them through the complexities of new material, and making problem solving fun! I look forward to working with you!
