I am diving into tutoring for the first time in several years as I have a new family addition and am looking to add some supplemental income. This is actually my second child, as I also have a 7 year old daughter, so needless to say, I have experience with children.
I have a fairly varied educational background in that I first received my Associates Degree from North Shore Community College following High School, where I majored in Liberal Arts and studied a variety of topics from Marine Biology to Religion and Literature and everything in between. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Burlington, VT where I attended the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont. There, I received my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies with a minor in Wildlife Biology. Upon graduation from this program I received Thesis Honors for my undergraduate thesis focusing on the use of local knowledge in New England Fisheries management.
Professionally I have spent the last several years working in a database support environment heading special projects as well as customer and vendor relations. I have gathered further experience here in public speaking as well as expertise in using all of Microsoft Office Suite and SQL.
What I can offer as a tutor is my expertise and knowledge that I gathered in my various endeavors, both as a student and employee. I can offer tutoring in a wide variety of subjects including any Elementary, Middle or High School Science, History/Social Studies, Math, English, and Computer Skills. I can also tutor at a college level for Biology, Environmental Science/Studies, Wildlife and Population Biology, Writing, MS Office Suite, and SQL. I can also offer preparatory tutoring for the GED, SATs, ACTs and other college/career placement tests.
My tutoring methods are fairly straight forward as I like to help the student complete any school work they may be struggling with then devise activities to help them apply material to real life situations, which I believe helps students fully understand what they are learning rather than simply committing it to memory.
Please feel free to call or email me any questions you may have regarding my experience, tutoring style, or myself in general.
