I believe that the most important part of teaching is listening. I encourage my students to communicate their questions and concerns, and the student guides the process. My teaching experience ranges from early childhood music to SAT Preparation and the variety of my background has given me a strong "tool kit" from which to teach. I enjoy teaching one-on-one because it gives me the opportunity to work directly with a person's individual needs.
I am fortunate enough to have studied theater intensively, and as a result I have developed a teaching style that is both dynamic and intuitive. I have also studied Developmental Psychology and Drama as Education, and after college spent several years substitute teaching in public school systems. In that time I taught in almost every subject offered, including six weeks in a high school English classroom. I also served as an elementary classroom teacher, music and art specialist, and even a physical education instructor.
The most important thing I have learned in my years of teaching is that the student is the key element in the learning process. I tailor my teaching to the student, their age, their interests and their background, and I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the process.
