Dear Students,
If you want someone enthusiastic about learning, you've come to the right person! In May 2012, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in General Biology, Honors-in-Major, from the University of New Hampshire. As a member of the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honors Society, I have tutored college freshman in introductory biology. However, I welcome students of all ages. I can tutor for a range of life science subjects, from the fundamentals of biology to biochemistry. I can tutor for math courses as well, up to Calculus. I am also interested in art and took introductory drawing and painting classes in high school. I have taken six years of Spanish as well. In addition to tutoring experience, I have also been a teaching assistant for a one month summer program for high school students, Project SMART (Science and Mathematics through Research Training), at the University of New Hampshire. I assisted in many of the biotechnology labs, which included plant tissue culture, protein quantification, plasmid isolation and restriction enzyme digestion of DNA.
As a student who has struggled with inattentive attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), I can help to identify effective studying techniques to ensure academic success. I will equip my students with problem solving strategies, showing how to address a problem and figure out a solution. Also, I find it helpful to take a step-by-step approach and review material to reinforce key concepts. Ultimately, I hope to enable my students to explain these concepts to me, as if telling a story, as that is the best way to thoroughly understand any subject. We may draw diagrams to tackle these problems as well. If my student knows a subject well, but struggles with test-taking, we can go over strategies to make him or her comfortable with taking exams and look at the types of test problems my student may face. I will be patient and judgement-free toward my students, as learning happens best when one is free of judgement.
Thank you for your consideration!
Sincerely,
Caroline W.
