I am a recent graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree in French and Francophone Studies. As a graduate teaching assistant, I taught beginning and intermediate-level French language classes and a French film course conducted in English. Before attending UMASS, I lived in Brittany, France for two years where I taught English to elementary school children aged 6 to 12 years old. I completed my Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in French Language and Literature at the University of Vermont in Burlington. While there, I volunteered in multiple ESL classrooms in Burlington public schools and worked as a French tutor for university students at UVM. Two summers ago I worked as a French and Spanish tutor with student athletes at UMASS, and this past summer I taught a second-semester French course online.

I have Preliminary Licensure to teach Foreign Languages (French) Grades 5-12 in Massachusetts, and my Initial Licensure is pending my official graduation in February. I have passed the MTEL (Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure) in French and Spanish. I also hold a 100-hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification.

Teaching and learning are my passion, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and helping students succeed. I specialize in languages including French, English, Spanish, and Polish. As both a language learner and teacher, I understand the challenges students may face when learning a new language and can help them overcome these difficulties. I cater my lessons to the specific needs and wants of the student (i.e. grammar, vocabulary, speaking, reading, writing, etc.). I like to incorporate culture and technology (including websites, music, films, and more) into my lessons and to encourage students to use the target language as much as possible.

I am flexible with both time and travel, and I am willing to tutor around Western Massachusetts. Please note that I have an 8-hour cancellation policy, although I do allow for make-up sessions. I prefer to meet with prospective students and their parents for a free introductory meeting to ensure that we are all on the same page.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your academic or personal goals!

Elementary (K-6th)

I recently graduated from UMASS Amherst with a Master of Teaching degree. I have taught students of all ages from elementary school children to college students. I recently spent two years teaching English to French school children aged 6 to 11. I have also worked at a summer camp with youth aged 4 to 16 and one summer specifically with the youngest campers (4 and 5 years old).

English

I am a native English speaker who is passionate about languages, linguistics, and grammar. I began volunteering in ESL classrooms in Burlington, VT in 2007 and subsequently became TEFL certified (100 hours) in 2008. After completing my B.A. in 2009, I spent two years teaching English to elementary school children (aged 6 to 12 years old) in Brittany, France. I just recently completed a Master's of Teaching degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst where I also worked as a graduate teaching assistant instructing beginning and intermediate-level French courses. My knowledge of foreign languages has greatly increased my curiosity and understanding of my own language and also helps me to relate to the challenges my students face when learning a new language.
