I've had a great deal of experience in many areas. Presently, I teach basic motion picture cameracraft and movie making at a local community college. I've also taught courses in 3D video game development at the same school. I've been a teacher for 12 years, and am quite popular with students as well as other faculty members.
Prior to this, I spent 20 years as a software engineer, mostly developing systems for television and multimedia. I ran my own company for a few years, developing a video editing and authoring system for interactive applications such as on-line magazines, catalogs and training situations. I've also designed and developed software for aviation, cartography and mapmaking, and high-voltage electrical engineering.
Technology is great, but my main passion throughout my life has been the human mind, and the ability to communicate. I love the English language, and I love seeing students expand their abilities through the use of communication. In my spare time, I'm the advisor to a public speaking club at the local jail; developing more facility with language and speaking is one of the best ways to lower recidivism. I'm very active in a local Toastmasters club, which is devoted to fostering the ability to speak in public. I'm the Vice President of Education, and take an interest in seeing all of our members grow and advance in their abilities.
I'm very flexible in my approach to teaching. Students always do better when they're working on something they really want to do. I look for ways for students to learn through doing real-world projects with others, rather than doing mere exercises in a textbook. Work that connects you to a community, and brings you an audience, brings satisfaction that can last a lifetime.
