Reading comprehension, remediation ACT, SAT prep, ADD/ADHD

I am trained in a number of remedial reading techniques including Orton Gillingham, Wilson and Lindamood-Bell. I love assisting students with autism, Asperger's syndrome, Irlen syndrome, ADD and ADHD to develop effective learning strategies according to their learning style.

I hold a Master's degree in Special Education, and have continued coursework to stay current in my field. I am an experienced teacher and I love it! I enjoy gardening, camping, boating, painting landscapes and seascapes, cooking, and sharing my home with my husband, my cats and a Westie.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught elementary and middle school self contained and substantially separate classes as well as inclusion support at this level. I am Certified as a teacher for K-8.

Phonics

I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, and Project Read phonics-based reading programs. I also have extensive experience in the Lindamood-Bell auditory phonetic processing methods and materials. My students have demonstrated marked improvement in their phonetic skills.

Study Skills

I have solid experience assisting my students in developing solid study and review skills.
I train my students to take 2 column notes as they read, and to visualize the text as well. As a special education teacher, I also have experience in relieving test anxiety.

Special Needs

I hold an MEd and Mass certification in teaching school-aged children with special needs. I have taught substantially separate classrooms as well as inclusion for over 30 years and have remained current in this field with over 75 additional credits.

ADD/ADHD

I have a masters degree in teaching school age children with special needs. I have been trained in techniques and instructional modifications specifically for students with the diagnosis of ADD and ADHD through additional coursework at Fitchburg State. I modify the length, variety, and delivery of my lessons, as needed for my individual students. I have received a commendation for my work with students with ADD from their parents.

Dyslexia

I have extensive training in Orton Gillingham and Wilson remedial reading programs dealing with Dyslexia. I have taught many dyslexic students successfully in my career as a special educator. I look forward to helping you or your student.
