As a full time teacher, I clearly noted that I could do weekends only. As I teach until 2:30 the student was not available until 4 p.m. Meeting during the week was not going to be feasible, so I did not want any time wasted where they could find another tutor that could accommodate their needs. At any rate, for the session I met with the student, I did expose him to what the TOEFL test was as he had not any prep materials nor knew what was on the test.

"Excellent lesson! Very organized and really helpful!"

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

I was a high school English teacher in which I spent time working with students in creating and writing college essays to submit with their applications. In addition, during my college experience I was a Student Ambassador, who provided tours and information to potential families visiting the campus.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently a middle school ELA teacher and am well versed in reading and writing strategies, along with grammar.

Praxis

As a current middle school English teacher and previously a high school English teacher with a certification to teach English grades 7-12, I have taken the Praxis II exam for English content and essays. I have worked with student teachers in preparing for these two tests. I am current with what the content on both tests are, as well as approaches on how to study for the exam.

Study Skills

I currently teach eighth grade English Language Arts. As a Study Skills tutor, I will work with the student on organizational skills such as keeping a planner, an organized notebook and binder, as well as setting up times/structures on how and when to study. In addition, I will provide various models for the student on how to take notes, prepare for tests and quizzes, as well as how/what to review for class and/or assessments.

Outstanding! — Sara has been invaluable for our needs. She was always very prompt, extremely professional, incredibly smart and reliable. She taught my daughter new ways to think about verbal and reading comprehension. I could never have done as good a job as she did in helping assist my daughter with the SSAT studying process. I will definitely use her in the future. She deserves an A+!!!! ...
