Hi! I am a High School Math and Physics teacher in the Cape and Islands area. I'll describe my teaching experience in a minute. Before I do that, however: I'm in my late 40s and I've been teaching for 6 years. Before teaching, I had a long career in business, mainly in computers. I was a programmer then I had more and more responsible management positions. I was Vice President for a couple of companies. During all of those years, I kept it in the back of my mind that I wanted to teach some day. Finally I went back to school to get a Master's in Teaching Mathematics and became a Middle and then High School Math teacher. I love it.
I've taught 8th grade Math (Prealgebra), Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus and Physics. I've also tutored many students in their homes. One of my strengths in tutoring is making the student feel comfortable. For example, I almost always ask the student: How do you feel about tutoring? And I stress that it's OK to be honest, even negative if that represents the truth. If the student's answer is problematic, I discuss it with the parent. Once the tutoring starts, I work very hard to find a way to make the work enjoyable for the student and not overwhelming.
I hope that you'll consider working with me.
