Hi,

I am an enthusiastic vocational education teacher, teaching programming and web design. I am a licensed teacher with the state of Massachusetts. I have a well-rounded education. As part of my license I passed the literacy and reading comprehension exam offered by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education. I am capable of teaching math up to and including Algebra, and I have successfully tutored 4 students for the GCC math placement exam. All four passed. One of the four is in an early childhood education program, and two are in pre-nursing programs.

I am also well-read and write very well. I am well-versed in photography, and have taken photography courses.

My expertise is in computers. I currently teach at the high school level various programming languages (visual basic, visual c#, c++, AP Java) as well as web design (HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP), Game Design (Unity 3d) and various computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Photoshop, Publisher).

I love teaching kids! I am sure I can be of benefit to yours.

C#

I am a licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education to teach programming and web design. I have been teaching for 6 years. Prior to teaching, I worked in the software industry in the Boston, MA area. I am currently teaching C# using Microsoft Visual Studio, and the text book Visual C# programming for Teens. This book uses the PictureBox object for loading in bitmaps and "animating" characters by loading in sprite sheets, and looping through each bitmap of the sprite sheet while advancing the pixel coordinates of the sprite within the picturebox. However, I am now looking into the XNA development toolkit and will most likely be switching to this instead. I am also teaching Unity 3D, which allows the use of C# for its scripting language, though we are currently using javascript instead. In C# we have covered classes, objects, creating devices in the PictureBox, looping, conditionals, forms objects, properties, methods, etc. Another lesson has them create a "Ghoul or Goblin" or "Naughty or Nice" quiz, that uses checkboxes with characteristics of Gools/Goblins Good Students/Bad Students (such as, "cleans bedroom" for good and "uses cell phone at school" for bad), adds up the checks of each characteristic, then displays a picture of which more closely matches the person filling out the quiz.

C++

I am a licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education to teach programming and web design. I have been teaching for 6 years. Prior to teaching, I worked in the software industry in the Boston, MA area. I have a degree in Software Engineering from SUNY College of Technology. From 1985-2005 I worked as a software QA engineer, specializing in automation using Segue's Silktest. Silktest is a C++ like object oriented language for automating software testing. I have taught C++ to students for about 5 years, typically using the tutorial that is found at cplusplus.com. My curriculum follows this tutorial, with additional exercises that I think up on my own. Usually we make it through the Classes II section. Therefore I teach: variables, datatypes, syntax, style, OOP, Control Structures (conditionals, logic, looping, recursion), arrays, strings, functions, argument passing, pointers and pass by reference, classes, objects, properties, methods, constructors, destructors. We touch on Polymorphism and inheritance but do not go into this in detail. A recent lesson I did right before the holiday break was to teach them the concept of recursion, show the movie "Inception," then ask them to write an essay on how recursion was like and not like the "dream inside a dream" concept in the movie.

Computer Engineering

I am a licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education to teach programming and web design. I have been teaching for 6 years. Prior to teaching, I worked in the software industry in the Boston, MA area.

Since you do not have descriptions on specifically what each of these 'categories' is, I can only guess as to what the difference is between "Computer Engineering," "Computer Programming," and "Computer Science". I believe what this category represents is the concept of designing and creating either software or hardware. I will assume hardware. I have a BS degree in Computer Science from SUNY College of Technology. I was categorized as either a software engineer or software QA engineer for most of my jobs from 1985 to 2005. I designed and wrote automation software that methodically tested software and hardware for various companies, including an internet marketing application for the software side and punch clocks for the hardware side. I am very familiar with development processes. Is this what you are looking for for this subject?

Computer Programming

I am a licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education to teach programming and web design. I have been teaching for 6 years. Prior to teaching, I worked in the software industry in the Boston, MA area.

Computer Science

I am a licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education to teach programming and web design. I have been teaching for 6 years. Prior to teaching, I worked in the software industry in the Boston, MA area.

I am not sure what the difference is between "Computer Science" and "General Computer". I assume you are referring to the various concepts of computers and the computer industry. I teach many computer concepts to my students. I teach them about the difference between hardware and software; what programming is; what the internet and the "Web" is; what Clients are vs. Servers; what protocols are; about cyber ethics, cyber crime; about email etiquette; about cyber bullying; about viruses and anti virus software; about phishing. Is this what you are looking for?

Desktop Publishing

I worked for 7 years at a company called Interleaf, which was actually the first software company that created desktop publishing software way back in 1981. I worked for the company from 1984-1991. It unfortunately lost the war with Framemaker, which in turn lost the war with Macromedia. Of course, Adobe is now the king of all.
I also teach desktop publishing as part of my job in a vocational high school, and have used Publisher and PageMaker.

Elementary Math

Let me help your child excel in math! Basic Math is a building block for other skills, so it is important to learn it well.

General Computer

I am licensed by the state of Massachusetts to teach Information Technology, Programming and Web Design. Before becoming a teacher, I worked for 20 years in the Boston High Tech Industry. I am continually learning more about this constantly changing industry, so that I am always up to date.

HTML

I am licensed by the state of Massachusetts to teach Information Technology, Programming and Web Design. Before becoming a teacher, I worked for 20 years in the Boston High Tech Industry. I am continually learning more about this constantly changing industry, so that I am always up to date.

Photography

I have been a hobby photographer for about 35 years. I have done some professional photographic work for weddings and at the now extinct computer museum in Boston, MA. I lived in Ireland for 6 months so that I could work on my craft.

Visual Basic

I am a licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education to teach programming and web design. I have been teaching for 6 years. Prior to teaching, I worked in the software industry in the Boston, MA area.

Vocabulary

A successful person must have a good and varied vocabulary. No matter what a teacher teaches, they should always be working to expand the vocabulary of his or her students. It behooves all teachers to use a variety of interesting words with their students and then make sure they know what they mean. It is not the sole responsibility of the English department. I am a licensed teacher in the state of Massachusetts, where I have taught for 6 years. Prior to teaching, I worked as a professional in the software industry for 25 years, where a good vocabulary is essential!

Web Design

I am licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education to teach Programming and Web Design. I have created many websites using html, css, javascript and php. I have a good understanding of basic web design including layout, use of color, and use of white space.

Great experience! Our experience with her Tutoring Lessons was great. Right off, I like the fact she was professional and polite with us and our son who received the lessons. Cyndi was on time and worked hard with our son. She was patience and would repeat things if she felt there was not a good understanding of the lesson material. She spent her own time gathering information on the specific areas my son neede ...
