About Ena

My primary focus is helping both High School and College students with introductory Physics and Calculus. I love to teach and enjoy helping students really learn physics and advanced math. I work with students both in person and online, where I share my screen and create study notes along the way. I am an experienced and certified teacher with over 10 years of collective experience in teaching and tutoring. Currently, I am teaching Honors and AP Physics, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics at Cathedral High School, MA. Previously, I taught at Lynnfield High School and at Pingree School in MA. I have a Master's degree in Physics from the University of New Hampshire (ABD).

I provide nurturing and individualized attention to the students' specific needs, focusing on critical thinking, problem solving, lab reports, and communicating information in the way scientists and mathematicians do. I take great care to challenge my students and build their skills. My students tell me that I make the complicated easy. While physics and math are NOT easy, they can certainly be easier. I keep the tutoring sessions light and try to make them fun, so that the students don't feel like learning is a chore. I have helped students who either struggle in their physics and math subjects, or who are doing well and want to do better.

*** I understand the investment you are making in tutoring and strive to make the most of it by making the sessions efficient and productive. I do require that students communicate with me about their classes via email throughout the week, so that I can proactively prepare for our sessions.***

While tutoring, I diagnose the student's capabilities and focus on the areas that need assistance. We practice problem solving and I help the student understand the concepts and the mathematics behind the solution approaches. I also ask questions to help the student build deeper insights and to help prepare for exams.

I have helped students with organization, study skills, and test preparation. I give students frequent assessments to gauge their progress, which they can complete on their own time - and not on tutoring time.

I can travel to your home (within the radius specified on my WyzAnt profile) or to a convenient public location, such as a Public Library. An adult must be present during the tutoring sessions for students under 18. I also do Online sessions, which allows us both to share our screens and take notes on key concepts and strategies as we go. College Students who are not local frequently take advantage of my Online sessions.

A little bit about my background... While doing my undergraduate studies at Colgate University, I took on a senior research project to build a device that measured surface roughness of thin-film surfaces. I am told that this device is still in use at Colgate today. After I graduated from Colgate University with a B.A. and Honors in Astronomy and Physics, I was awarded a Pew Scholarship to be a Research and Teaching Assistant at Cornell University, where I built an infrared photomultiplier to study radiation from newly-forming stars. We used this device with the Hale Telescope at Palomar mountain in CA. At Cornell, I assisted professors with various undergraduate Astronomy and Physics courses. After Cornell, I was offered funding to attend the graduate program at the University of New Hampshire. Throughout my education, I continued to offer academic assistance to my peers and tutored many students. I have also worked as a professional technical writer and Information Architect, specializing in delivering science, math, and engineering information online.

I look forward to working with you and helping you to accomplish your absolute best!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I am an experienced tutor in calculus, helping students master Continuity and Limits, Derivatives and Differentiation, Applications of Differentiation, Integration, Applications of Integration, Differential Equations, and Sequences and Series.

I look forward to studying calculus with you!

Physics

I am an experienced physics teacher, certified in Massachusetts. I have an M.S. (ABD) in physics from the University of New Hampshire and have tutored and helped many students feel comfortable with physics. Think it's impossible? Just give me a try! Whether you are feeling completely lost or a getting ready for your AP Physics exam, I can help make it much easier. We can work together to get you to feel right at home with Kinematics, Newton's Laws, Circular Motion and Gravitation, Work and Energy, Linear Momentum, Rotational Motion, Static Equilibrium, Fluids, Vibrations and Waves, Sound, Temperature, Heat, Electricity and Magnetism, Light, Optics, Special Theory of Relativity, Models of the Atom, Nuclear Physics, and Elementary Particles.
