Dear Students,
Are you having difficulties in school? Maybe I can help. Let me tell you a little bit about my qualifications and if you think they'd serve you well, let's get in touch.
After a wonderful career in teaching that spanned over 25 years, I've lightened my schedule. Currently, I am the reading tutor for a local public school system and I work with private students as well. That work is focused on English and all its challenges: literature, vocabulary, grammar, composition and especially critical thinking skills. My students range from grades 6 to 12. We are focused on learning in a relaxed atmosphere which adds humor to the experience. Learning can be enjoyable and that's one reason for my high success rate.
My own background includes a BA in English with a minor in education, and a MA in Humanities which gives me the resources to add cultural history, art, music, psychology and philosophy to lessons in literature. It's a very enriching blend.
I taught in public and private schools, urban and suburban. I've also worked with non-traditional students, including Special Ed.
Since I've also taught English and Academic Writing on the college level, I'm especially effective in preparing high school students for the challenges that lie ahead. My expertise in teaching analytical writing has been very valuable to students starting their college careers. So many have told me, "Thank you for teaching us how to write!" It's so essential because most college assessments are based on the students' critical thinking skills and their ability to express them in writing.
My credentials are unusual for their variety and depth. If you think they'd be valuable to you, please let me know.
