Dear Parents and Students,
I've enjoyed helping young people find their passions and place in the world for over twenty-two years. My resume includes working as a college admissions counselor for two years, high school school counselor for eight, and clinical social worker helping teens for nine years. In addition, I have tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in English, History, Geography, and English as a second language.
My life has taken me from southern California to southern Africa to the Middle East. I am happy to be living on the South Shore with my husband now. My undergraduate degree is in Sociology from Concordia University and I earned a Masters' degree in Social Work (MSW) from San Diego State University. However, I believe in lifelong education, so I also recently completed thirty additional graduate credits in school counseling. These experiences have given me a unique perspective to build relationships and work effectively with students of all ages. My philosophy is to empower students to reach their highest potential in all areas of their lives.
In terms of personalized college counseling, I have a broad and deep knowledge of selective colleges and universities throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East. I am in contact with college admissions staff and stay current with admissions trends. I can help each student put their best self forward with the following activities, based on her or his personalized needs. These include the college search process, college list development, college essay brainstorm and ongoing editing, organizing deadlines and college checklist, preparing a comprehensive application, portfolio creation, resume development, interview preparation, stress reduction techniques, and decision-making and problem-solving assistance.
Because I have written curricula, edited professional papers and college essays, and created school profiles, I can also proofread documents and tutor in the areas of English, language arts, reading, and writing. I am a lifelong History student.
How can I best help you?
