Hi, my name is Matthew. I am passionate about education, and I would be honored to assist you and/or your children in the development of study and writing habits. I have always been an excellent student; I was the type of child who read endlessly, soaking up knowledge like a sponge. I was reading at a middle-school level upon beginning kindergarten. I skipped the first grade and greatly benefited from attending a small private school where I could receive plenty of individual attention. In the fifth grade, I represented my school and community at the state level of the National Geography Bee. I was a contestant on the local high school TV quiz program As Schools Match Wits during all four years of high school; in three of those years, our team made the playoffs. As a result of my superior score on the PSAT (650 math, 650 verbal, 730 writing), I received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program during my junior year. I graduated cum laude from Saint Michael's College with a history major and religious studies minor.
I have a very broad knowledge base. My areas of expertise are American and European history, literature, religious studies, and philosophy. I am not exclusively right-brained, however: I have very strong math skills, in both algebra and geometry. I am also an experienced writer and researcher. I am an excellent speller (if this area participated in the National Spelling Bee, I would have won!). I can teach you his to critically analyze primary and secondary sources, how to organize your thoughts and arguments for composition, and how to make connections across numerous fields of study.
As for my personality, you will find that I am friendly and warm, but also diligent and disciplined. I must admit that this would be my first time tutoring formally; however, I have informally tutored people my entire life, in and out of classes. A tutor is someone who teaches someone else how to be a great student. I understand that, and my goal as a tutor will be to teach you how to find the answers on your own. I am available for all levels and ages of students. I hope I can help you in your pursuit of education.
