I'm new to WyzAnt, but as a PhD student in Philosophy at Harvard I have years of teaching, tutoring, and editing behind me. As the main writing tutor for the Harvard Philosophy Department, I've led writing workshops and met one-on-one with over a hundred students to help them improve their writing. In 2012 I received Harvard's Certificate of Distinction in Teaching. And in 2010 I edited and created the index for a 550-page book published by Stanford University Press.

I'm available to help students of all levels and ages with English, writing, SAT, GRE, and more. I'm also conversant in a wide range of humanities disciplines (I've published in a comparative literature journal, and I assisted in a course on Proust). Most importantly, I'm very passionate about teaching.

Since I'm new to WyzAnt, I can't boast about any reviews, but here are some things that Harvard undergraduates have said about my performance as a TF (Teaching Fellow, Harvard's version of a TA):

-“This was the best section, and Byron the best TF, that I've ever had. I loved going to section, and hearing his thoughts and comments.”

-“Byron is my dream TF. I am thrilled at the thought that there is at least a possible world in which Byron is the TF for all my classes all the time. Byron takes your comments seriously. Byron is very thoughtful in his responses. Byron is understanding of your troubles as an undergraduate. Byron is very smart. Byron feels very deeply about his work.”

-“Byron is the best philosophy TF that I have ever had.”

-“Byron was one of the best TFs I have ever had. Smart, articulate, incredibly engaged with and enthusiastic about the material, always prepared, knew when to offer his own ideas and when to step back a little.”

-“Byron is great. I've never had a better section leader.”

-“Byron is a fantastic TF; he is quite knowledgeable, very friendly, and extremely approachable.”

“Great TF, I hope to be able to work with him again. Very accessible outside of class and willing to address any question you have about the subject matter.”

As a student of philosophy, first as an undergraduate major in philosophy at Reed College, and now as a PhD student in philosophy at Harvard University, I have been required to take courses in logic. I have taught and graded logic as well.

At Reed, I took one course in first-order logic, including soundness and completeness, as well as a course in modal logic. I received As in both courses. In my last year at Reed, I worked as a tutor and grader for the aforementioned course in first-order logic.

While at Harvard, I took another course in first-order logic, and again received an A.

Highly recommend Byron has been very helpful with my daughter's study of SAT reading and writing. He helped her sort out her thoughts and organization by asking her questions. His gentle and calm manner helps lessen her stress about taking the exam. After each lesson, my daughter seems to have more hope and is more enthusiastic to tackle the SAT questions. We just finished 30 hours of tutoring lessons with Byron. ...
