I bring to my work outstanding academic qualifications, a successful record of teaching high school English, and a passionate commitment to the success of each individual student. I earned a B.A. (magna cum laude) from William and Mary in English and Religious Studies and an MTS from the University of Notre Dame in Biblical Studies. I also spent two years working toward a Ph.D. at Harvard before returning to my passion, teaching and tutoring. My GPA at each institution stood between a 3.7 and 3.9.
I help my students succeed in all aspects of English: reading, writing, editing, proofreading, grammar, and vocabulary study. Mastering the intricacies of grammar or learning to be aware of subtext, themes, and symbols in reading can be tricky and require patient effort, but I find this topic a joy, and I love helping my students find it so, too. I have also mastered a number of ancient languages, including Latin, Biblical Hebrew, Classical and Koine Greek, Akkadian, Sumerian, Syriac, and Aramaic; I've also studied a little German, French, and Coptic. When it comes to languages, I am a patient and knowledgeable guide.
My methodology is straightforward: I pay attention to my students. I love tutoring because it allows me to discern what each individual student needs and work to supply it. I am friendly, fun, and non-judgmental. To me, learning ought to be rewarding and even joyful, and I work hard to help my students find success and satisfaction in their education.
