Hi! I'm Elaine. What do I have to offer as a tutor? In addition to having a firm base of knowledge in the fields I tutor, I possess curiosity, problem-solving ability, and empathy. My natural curiosity means that I've looked at my subjects from many different angles to answer my own questions as they have arisen in the past. This mental flexibility makes it easy for me to empathize with my students and thus more fully address their questions and underlying concerns. My experience in a wide variety of fields -- ranging from math to languages to holistic health -- gives me diverse knowledge to draw from in order to explain new concepts. These traits of mine all contribute to the efficacy of my tutoring; my easygoing nature, meanwhile, will keep us both having a good time!
Details from my work and life that may be of interest are as follows. I majored in math at Wellesley College. My coursework included physics, computer science, English literature and writing, linguistics, and drawing. I am a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, a holistic approach to health and well-being. Thus I have practical knowledge of human anatomy, the musculoskeletal system in particular. My parents are non-native speakers of English, so I acquired my fluency by actively tuning in to how others spoke and wrote. Plus, I have formally studied half a dozen different languages. These habits of attention make me well suited to assist English-language learners in tackling the particular challenges they face.
