Hey There!
My name is Landa and I am excited to be able to share my expertise with you! During the last five years I've had so many amazing and diverse experiences; I traveled all over the world, teaching internationally, holding international and national solo art exhibitions and teaching art here in the states. I am extremely passionate about what I do and hold high standards for myself.

As an art teacher, I push my students to think critically and go beyond what they think they can do. Several ways I've been able to do this is to make the projects accessible and fun, break down the process, and give meaning to the medium through historical reference. My experiences as a professional artist have allowed me to work in a variety of mediums in cultural and creative communities, all of which inspire new ideas and possibilities.

My experience with programs, projects and presentations include: artist residencies, school library murals, art workshops, coloring books, commissioned work, and also public art presentations. I have worked with a variety of materials and mediums including, but not limited to:oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor painting, drawing (including pencil/pen and ink, ceramics (throwing and sculpture), textiles, screen printing(fabric and paper), and basket weaving.

Whatever your artistic needs may be, look no further, I can assist with all of your art education needs and interests! Whether you are interested in developing your skills and knowledge in the arts, building a portfolio for an application, or just looking to have some fun and learn something new I am the one for the job!

For those high school graduates I can assist in all portfolio preparation as well as essay writing; I have a strong background in English and creative writing.

For those interested in honing their English skills, I can assist you with grammar, writing and speaking. I am TEFL certified and have over 2 years of teaching experience in the field. I have taught all ages, from 3-year-olds to Adults and have experience with online instruction. Whether you are a beginner or advanced student, I can help you achieve your goals.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art Theory

Lets discuss art in society, discover new ways of thinking about what art is, go beyond what you know the classroom and think in a more critical, worldly and creative way. We will explore different assumptions and theories of what art is,through history and modern society.

I have a great deal of experience with art theory and art history. During my undergraduate studies I took Art and Culture, Renaissance Art History, 20th Century Art History, and Ancient to Modern Art History. While teaching middle school art for two years, I based the curriculum around Art History as well as studio art; it was the core of my lessons then and now.

I worked at a private middle school teaching art education, instructed several after school art workshops, and have helped to develop educational art programs in schools and as well as the Norman Rockwell Teacher Committee at the Smithsonian. After working as an artist in residence in Italy, I presented my project and research at a local Iowan library; providing information about the techniques, practices, and historical references used in my work.

Drawing

Explore the fundamental properties of drawing through a variety of mediums: pencil, pen and ink, and colored pencil. In this lesson you will practice a variety of skills and techniques for you to become a better drawer. Some of these include: shading, blending, stippling, hatching, and cross-hatching etc. You will also learn about perspective, proportion and composition to better your understanding of realistic drawing.

I have over 10 years of experience drawing. During my undergraduate studies I studied advanced drawing in Mexico and explored a variety of other classes dedicated to drawing and the arts. After graduation I taught Middle School Art for two years, focusing on developing students artistic abilities; especially in drawing. I also designed and implemented drawing and portfolio building electives to strengthen students skills and prepare them for High School. For adults, I've presented workshops on public art as well as my own work. I feel that drawing is a skill that can be learned and mastered if given the right tools and resources.
