Hello and welcome to my profile! I am a graduate of St. John's High School and a sophomore at Harvard College. I graduated valedictorian of my high school class, and I was chosen as a 2013 Telegram & Gazette Student Achiever, representing St. John's. I am an Applied Mathematics-Computer Science concentrator at Harvard. This past semester, I was a teaching fellow for Harvard's Applied Math 21a: Multivariable Calculus class. I held weekly classes of ~30 students, held office hours, and graded problem sets and exams. I like math and science, and am happy to tutor in math, physics, computer science, chemistry, economics, and SAT prep.

James is my son's first tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and he always thinks of different varieties of helpful ways to help my child improve on his SAT writing and SAT math. In merely a short period of time, my son shows significant improvements on problem comprehension and problem solving. My son feels extremely confident in taking his next SAT after this month of tutoring by James.
Excellent tutor. Patient, knowledgeable, willing to work with students schedule. My son got a very good grade on his final exam thanks to James. I highly recommend him.
My son's knowledge and confidence have greatly increased after working with James. James is very patient and knowledgeable and puts my son at ease.
Our daughter enjoys math, but has felt discouraged lately because she had too many unanswered questions! This was holding her back from moving forward! One session with James and her attitude toward math was positive once again. She is ready for her test today and felt confident leaving for school. She is looking forward to her next session!! Her goal is to move into honors math next year! We believe James can help her reach her goal! We would recommend him highly!
Knows the material very well, but is able to explain things in clear and concise ways. My daughter always feels much more confident about her abilities.
James was very helpful, took the time to explain everything in detail, and my daughter feels better now that she fully understands the work.
Thank you so much.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I scored a 5 on the AP BC Calculus exam. I scored an 800 on the SAT portion of the math exam. At Harvard, I received an A in multivariable calculus and an A in linear algebra and differential equations. I am concentrating in applied math.
I was recruited to Harvard for rowing: I can coach erging technique and supervise workouts, assign workouts, look at results, and suggest how to move forward. I can help improve erg times for college recruiting. The best time to lower erg times for recruiting is between the spring of sophomore year and the summer going into senior year. I am experienced with the expectations of coaches, both athletically and academically. A fast erg score can make you an (even more) outstanding college applicant!
I scored a 5/5 on the AP Statistics exam in 2013.
