If you are looking for a tutor to help your student excel at the difficult science and math AP courses, or a tutor to give your student the advantage they need in order to preform competitively at college entrance exams like the ACT and SAT, I am the tutor for you.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Michigan in a gap year before medical school. I graduated with a B.S. in biology, with an extensive background in all general sciences, including all pre-medical science classes. I double majored with with Asian studies, so I also have a great understanding of effective writing. In high school, I took AP calculus BC on which I scored two 5's (the highest score you can receive). I also took AP English literature on which I scored a 4 and AP Chemistry which I scored a 4. I scored in the 90th percentile for the SATs and spent a lot of time preparing for this test so I understand the strategies that are necessary in order to preform well. I also am very familiar with ACT tutoring. I have tutored throughout high school, and during college I volunteered tutoring elementary age students. I have had great success tutoring and understand how to encourage students to study and master their material.

Math Experience: I have taken all high school math up till Calculus BC, and then at U of M, I have taken Calculus III and Differential Equations. I have also taken an upper level probability course.

Science Experience: I have taken AP Chemistry in high school, and Organic Chemistry I and II, an Intro to Cellular Biology, an Intro to Evolutionary Biology, Genetics, Physical Chemistry II, Plant Biology, Mechanical Physics- Calculus based, and Electricity and Magnetism Physics- Calculus based, and many more biology courses.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The ACT is a very dreaded test because it weighs so heavily on the admission of a high school student into the university of their choice. With so many preparatory courses available, it is no wonder that the ACT is becoming more and more competitive. Give yourself or your student the extra edge that they need with one-on-one tutoring. I scored above the 90th percentile on the ACT and at the 98th for the mathematics section. Math is a passion of mine, and I truly enjoy teaching it. I can give you or your student insight into the important strategies of the ACT math section. With a diagnostic test, I will identify the areas of improvement for you or your student to excel on the ACT math portion and receive that score that you want!

Algebra 1

I believe that Algebra 1 is a really critical point in a student's development of math skills. It is a time where a proper foundation can carry a student throughout the rest of their math career. I understand the common problems that students face when studying Algebra 1, and can identify effective methods to solve these problems. Often times, the introduction of variables is what causes confusion when trying to grasp the new concepts presented in Algebra 1. As a previous math tutor and math enthusiast, I believe that I will be a great fit for your student!

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a point at which a student's math career can either accelerate or not. I believe that the foundation in Algebra 2 is what will ultimately help a student succeed in upper level math courses, such as calculus. The introduction of complicated functions is usually what many students find difficult to understand, I know how to identify these problems and guide students into their own understanding. I believe that I can help your student succeed and continue to succeed in their further studies in math!

English

I have extensive experience in English, in writing as well as in reading. I have taken AP English Literature in high school and have taken 3 English courses throughout my college career. I can help identify the aspects in which you or your student can improve performance in English studies. I am confident that I can help a struggling student or even an apt student preform exceptionally.

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra is a point at which students can begin to encounter difficulties in mathematics. The problems arise when integrating variables with numbers. Often times, the approach that works for teaching one student Pre-Algebra doesn't work with another. This is because of the way a student understands the introduction of variables. My approach to tutoring Pre-Algebra is to bring the mathematics to the student's level, so that they can understand the concept of a variable before being giving an equation and being told to solve it. I find that this a very effective way to help a student not only understand the concepts, but also get more excited about math and ultimately excel. I believe that I will be an excellent fit for your student!

Great motivator . — My son really enjoyed working with Deeana. He was retaking the ACT to improve his scores and she really provided the motivation he needed. This time he really felt good about his performance on the test and in a couple weeks he'll know for sure. In any case he learned to focus on the task and that was a good experience for him. Scores just came back and he was up 5 points on the composite. ...
