I'm a nonprofit and communications professional with over six years of experience helping individuals and organizations communicate their ideas effectively.
In my most recent position, I was a school garden educator at an elementary school. I taught classes out in the garden, made healthy snacks with the kids in their classrooms, and even organized events in the cafeteria to teach them about nutritious food. Nearly every activity I conducted with the kids had a connection to their curriculum. I measured bean plants with kindergartners, wrote word problems about planting radish seeds with 2nd graders, and developed an earthworm science unit for the 5th graders. This summer, I worked in a similar capacity with older kids, ages 11-14. Thanks to my experience as a garden educator, I've developed an understand of how to make learning fun and relevant for children - and adults, too!
In addition, while I was a student at Oberlin College I worked for a well-known tutoring corps. Through that organization, I met one-on-one with a fourth grader for two hours twice a week. We worked on math, reading, and a variety of other subjects. I have also worked as a peer tutor, assisting my fellow students primarily with writing and humanities.
Last, I am a classically-trained pianist with 13 years of experience. The piano has given me a solid, tangible basis for my own education in music, and I've gone on to play other instruments as well. If you are looking to learn piano I would be happy to give you lessons.
I'm passionate about teaching and my feedback is always constructive, professional, and friendly. I'm confident that I can help you or your child succeed academically and musically!
