I specialize in mechanical engineering subjects such as structural analysis, dynamics, vibrations, fluid mechanics, and the mathematics needed to understand them (linear algebra, calculus, differential equations).

My tutoring style varies depending on what is effective and comfortable for each person, but the focus is always on building an "intuitive" understanding of physics - the kind of understanding that allows you to look at a problem and know "by inspection" what the solution (if it exists) should look like.

I teach by breaking complex ideas down into easy parts, and my explanations are rigorous without being pedantic. Instead of relying on brute-force algebraic manipulation to prove a point, I like to use simple arguments that you can understand with your background and everyday physical experiences.

I am a certified mechanical EIT with a SB in civil engineering and a minor in mathematics from MIT. I have eight years of experience as a private tutor, and some experience teaching high school math and science classes.

I frequently tutor calculus, and I have studied it from many angles. In high school, I scored 5/5 on both AP Calculus AB and BC examinations. At MIT, I aced multivariable calculus. I have also taken mathematical analysis, and it has given me insight into the theoretical development of calculus.

I am also a certified mechanical engineer in training and have experience tutoring advanced structural analysis.

Electrical Engineering

I have much experience working with electronics and teaching circuits. I have designed circuits for school projects and for my professional work, built my own loudspeaker crossovers, and upgraded the wiring in my vintage car. I have also taught Maxwell's equations, Kirchoff's laws, Thevenin and Norton equivalents, capacitors, diodes, and ideal op-amps. My approach is hands-on; students are encouraged to use my breadboard, meters, signal generator and parts to build and test their own circuits.

Linear Algebra

I took linear algebra at MIT, and the concepts I learned reappeared ubiquitously throughout my engineering coursework. Because of this, I am very familiar with both the theory and engineering applications. I taught an informal introduction to linear algebra class and also have experience tutoring undergraduate-level linear algebra.

Mechanical Engineering

I am a certified mechanical EIT in MA. The certification process involves passing the FE, an eight hour exam that tests competency in mechanical engineering topics such as statics, dynamics, vibrations, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials.
