Elementary (K-6th)

I am a graduate from Brigham Young University in Elementary Education. I have worked as both a reading specialist and a second grade teacher, and I've tutored students with a wide range of abilities and ages. I love helping students do their best!

Elementary Math

I have experience teaching math to a class of second graders and tutoring elementary students in math one-on-one. In my second grade class, my students had a range of abilities, and I worked with them in small groups to help them understand the concepts we were learning in a way that made more sense to them. I would love to help your child succeed in math!

English

English has always been my favorite subject because I love writing! I'd love to share that love of writing with you and help you be successful! I have experience tutoring writing to middle school and high school students, and I've also used writing in my jobs. It's a powerful tool!

Phonics

I have worked as a reading specialist and as a second grade teacher. In both of these positions, I worked in small groups with students who struggled with phonics. I taught mini-lessons on various phonics patterns, then applied them to books we read together.

Prealgebra

In school, math was a subject I excelled in. I have experience tutoring elementary, middle school, and high school students in a variety of math subjects, including Prealgebra. I think it's important for students to understand why math works and not just the steps to take to get the right answer. I'd love to teach you!

Reading

I've worked as an Elementary Reading Specialist and as a reading tutor, and helping children learn to read is one of my passions! I believe that all children can make great progress as readers when we are attuned to their personal strengths and struggles and target our instruction to address those.

Voice (Music)

I have taken 12 years of private voice lessons, with instruction primarily in the musical theater and classical singing genres. Additionally, I participated in musical theater productions for 10 years and choirs for 9 years. I participated in Colorado All-State Choir for two years and Brigham Young University's auditioned Women's Chorus. I placed 1st in the high school classical singing competition for the Colorado/Wyoming chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and received an honorable mention in the musical theater portion of that contest. Furthermore, I competed as a semi-finalist in the national high school Classical Singer competition. I have competed and won awards at various other talent shows as a vocalist, and I have a minor in Music from Brigham Young University.

Writing

English was my favorite subject in school because I love writing so much! I enjoy many forms of writing, from literary analysis to technical writing to personal essays. I have tutored middle school and high school students in writing, and I've also worked as a technical writer in a couple of jobs. I love to help students understand and use the power of good writing!

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
