After graduating summa cum laude from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in English I moved to Argentina where I wrote for a weekly newspaper called The Argentimes. I wrote articles about politics, travel and the environment. While in Argentina I was accepted to Stanford's graduate journalism program. In the fall, I joined a select group of fifteen other students to complete an M.A. in journalism.
Since then I have been a freelance writer. I have written stories for Sunset magazine, Forbes and the New York Times among others. I have a significant amount of tutoring experience. While at UCLA I helped students in foster care study for their GED. I also worked one-on-one with a middle school student to help her complete her first science fiction novella.
I think the most important traits a tutor can have are compassion, patience and the belief that their student can do anything. I've learned that students have very different learning styles and so after meeting the student, I tailor my teaching style to fit his or her needs.
