My name is Barry. I was born and lived the first ten years of my life in the Caribbean. Afterward, I moved to the United States wherein I have been living for the past 20 years. However, over the course of these years I have lived and studied in France, Italy and in the UK.
Since the age of 7, I've had a proclivity for foreign languages and different cultures. I have studied over ten languages but my native fluency is in French and Italian language.
For the past four years, I have been one of the main teachers of French and Italian at a prestigious language school for working professionals and formerly worked for two years as a tutor of Latin, Spanish and French at a tutoring agency for international high school students.
What drives me to continue embarking this journey in academia is my passion to spread the beauty, culture and history of Romance languages. In my lessons, I provide tremendous patience, enthusiasm, and positive reinforcement. I accent upon the latter because students often feel a lack of control whilst learning foreign languages. I strongly believe that staying positive, constantly encouraging them and challenging them is essential for best results. Likewise during my thorough tutorials, I incorporate humor and useful mnemonic devices to make the learning process as fun as possible. It is through years of teaching that I have gained a stronger understanding of students from various cultural and learning backgrounds thereby instilling me with methods of adapting to each student's specific goals.
