Here are my credentials:
I hold a teaching license in Mathematics (grades 5 - 12). I have a B.S. in Mathematics with a Specialization in Computer Science and an M.Ed. degree in Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction.
I have taught mathematics in both middle school and in high school in addition to tutoring students one-on-one in Pre-algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry and Pre-Calculus. In terms of test prep experience, I have taught Math SAT Prep and have also worked with small groups of students on MCAS Prep in after-school and Saturday programs. My experience with struggling math students includes being a Title I Math Teacher and co-teaching special education students during their skills sessions.
Prior to my career as a mathematics teacher, I spent over two decades as a software engineer, using applied math to design and develop software for the CAD/CAM and Database Technology industries. Where appropriate, I use technology in instruction, including graphing calculators, software and Internet resources.
My teaching/tutoring philosophy:
I am able to effectively help students by getting to know their learning style and strengths as well as areas that they need to improve in or have learning gaps in. I engage students by using real-world examples and showing concrete representations of mathematical concepts. I quickly hone in on how my students think mathematically so that I can teach them using ideas, methods and strategies that make sense to them. Most importantly, I believe that everyone can learn mathematics with the right instruction.
