Hello! If you are looking for a tutor with exceptional instructional knowledge and skill, then I could be a good match for you. This is particularly true if the student needing help has struggled academically for reasons related to dyslexia, ADHD, ASD, or another condition that affects his/her learning style.
I started tutoring as a volunteer in college and quickly learned that I love helping students have fun learning and experience the satisfaction of building strong academic skills. Since graduating in 1998, I have made teaching my career. In private and public settings, I have spent the last 15 years having a wonderful time teaching English, Spanish, law & government, study skills, test prep, reading, writing, and math to students ages four to adult. I have especially enjoyed using my skills to help students who have struggled because of learning differences, such as when I taught at and managed an accredited one-on-one school in Washington state that specialized in serving students with dyslexia and other conditions affecting learning.
To help myself keep improving with my teaching skills, I earned a master in teaching degree in 2007 at Seattle University, where I completed coursework and an internship focused on special education. In 2011, I earned prestigious certification by the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards in the area of early/middle childhood literacy:reading/language arts.
My training and experience enable me to easily:
* identify where students are with their learning,
* design personalized, effective instructional plans, and
* help students to quickly gain confidence and skills, all the while
* having fun!
If this sounds like what you may be looking for, I would welcome a chance to discuss your goals and how I can help. I am confident that I can serve most students very well, and look forward to hearing from you.
*** Regarding scheduling, my afternoon, evening, and weekend tutoring slots are currently full for the 2014 spring semester. I do have weekday morning openings. I am also accepting students for summer 2014. ***
