Are you finding math a challenge, having difficulty writing essays and term papers, or understanding science? Do you find history or social studies boring or irrelevant? Are you not connecting with your teacher or vice versa? Studying for an exam: MCAS, SAT or for an exam school (ISEE)? Do you need help with your baseball swing or running a post pattern? Are you tired of teachers/tutors/coaches who make endless lists of annoying personal questions about what you like or dislike? If so, I might just be the teacher/tutor/coach you have been looking for.
Hello,
My name is David and if you don’t want to hear a brief synopsis/litany of my experiences, please read no further. I am an experienced teacher and tutor for just about every subject you can think of. I have taught test prep for the MCAS, ISEE and TOEFL and many others I am also a veteran test taker having taken the SATs', GRE (in several subjects) and passed 5 different MTEL (exams for teachers) tests. I have experience working with the designer of these tests and have insight into how they are constructed. Most of all I am a teacher. Whatever the need is (subjects or exams), I try to make the experience meaningful by finding out individual strengths are and what they find enjoyable. We connect that to whatever the student finds challenging or is trying to learn. I am a founding member of the Boston Renaissance School, one of the first charters in the country and I have taught just about everything (true renaissance man) to everyone. Over the past 20 years (17 at the Renaissance) I have enjoyed working in a resource room, as a reading specialist, a classroom teacher, and a math specialist. I have taught math from K1 to 6th grade. I have created science and social studies curriculum for grades Kindergarten to 6th grade. I have used science as a means of augmenting my lesson plans for 4th-6th graders when I taught as a Math Specialist. The state of Massachusetts deems me “Highly Qualified”, in: Reading and Literacy, Elementary Math, Early Childhood Education and I have certificates in ELL/ESL, as well as training in a variety of teaching methods and curricula.
During my life, the study of science, philosophy, history and politics (okay sometimes sports as well) finding where they intersect has informed my philosophy as an educator. Teaching across these disciplines while helping students make connections between academic content and real life applications seems to anchor student learning in a more meaningful way. I have travelled much of the world, worked on political campaigns, worked in a hospital using cutting edge technologies played collegiate and post collegiate sports and managed a middle school baseball team. Whatever and wherever you are in life or school, I believe I can help you get to where you are trying to go.
