Hi there.

I'm a creative professional who has been working in the field for about 10 years now. I've won many awards for my designs and have gained a wealth of knowledge for creating dynamic content in real-world environments. My specialties are in working with the Adobe programs InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Though I work daily with print design, I have also become well-versed in web design. The design process for web is particular in many ways, but the principles of print design lend themselves greatly to the needs and workings of the web. They support each other in as many ways as they differ.

My time working in the field also demands constant work in the training/assistance of others. I've found great pleasure in working with colleagues and students alike, showing them the many ways they can utilize today's software to enhance projects to their highest potential.

Nothing is more thrilling than to see a student's face light up at the moment they learn something new.

Thanks for checking me out, I hope to hear from you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

This is the program you want to use when creating vector-based graphics (logos, line art), as well as various types of charts and graphs.

If you need to create a nice, crisp logo or image that will be able to be reused at any size ... like on a website and on an enormous billboard, Illustrator is there for you.

If you have a whole bunch of data from an Excel document that you would like to turn into a very attractive graph, Illustrator has you covered there too.

I've been working with this helpful tool for a long time, and it does it's job very well.

Adobe InDesign

I've been working with InDesign almost daily for about 10 years now. I'm a graphic designer for several business publications in the Boston area. Previously, I've been the graphic designer for several newsrooms in the Southeastern Mass. region, both weekly and daily. I've received several first place awards for my designs from organizations such as the New England Associated Press, and the New England Newspaper and Press Association.

Adobe Photoshop

I've worked with Photoshop for more than 10 years now, using it near daily in my work as a graphic designer. I currently work on producing several business publications in the Boston area. Previously, I've been the graphic designer for several newsrooms in the Southeastern Mass. region, both weekly and daily. I've received several first place awards for my designs from organizations such as the New England Associated Press, and the New England Newspaper and Press Association. Not only do I know how to use the multitude of tools in program, I know how best to use them to solve problems. And since I often need to accomplish ambitious tasks on tight deadlines, I know how to shed time while preserving quality.

General Computer

As a graphic designer for several publications, I work with computers daily, and have been for more than 15 years. I also know my way around troubleshooting and basic repair.

Whether Mac or PC, I know how to get around a computer with ease. I also remember what it was like learning new things. I'm more than happy to sit patiently and explain the various methods and procedures involved in fully utilizing these powerful tools.

General Music

I've been playing music professionally since I was 15 years old, primarily on the bagpipes. I play not only Scottish Highland bagpipes, but also bellows-driven Scottish smallpipes and border pipes.

I've performed all throughout the U.S. and Canada as a piper, performing in a wide variety of settings, including pipe bands, rock groups, jazz ensembles and orchestras.

I was pipe major of the Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band in Cape Cod, and I'm often a featured performer with Cu Dubh -- a tribal bagpipe and drum ensemble performing at festivals throughout North America.

I'm a well-rounded musician who prefers to learn and teach music by ear. I know how to read/write music, but my focus has and will always ever be on musicality. This can only be truly learnt by listening.

Macintosh

As a graphic designer in the publishing industry, I've been using Mac computers regularly for over 15 years. I'm frequently depended upon in the workplace to provide assistance with any problems that arise in their usage. I take great pride in being able to patiently guide others in the learning of basic Mac skills.

I utilize Macs everyday in my day-to-day job, where I do creative design for a number of Boston-area newspapers and magazines. So I know not only how to get around and use them, but how to do so in the most efficient ways.

I also know first-hand the challenges of making a switch from PC use to a Mac, as I'm highly proficient on both platforms.

Photography

I'm a digital photographer working primarily in the area of photo journalism for almost 10 years now. I've been a regular photographer for several weekly newspapers and two daily papers in the Southeastern Mass. area.

So I've been a tutor on WyzAnt for some time now... and I'm about to start working with a student who's pursuing marketing as a career (as opposed to just design). This student seems to feel that having some design skills will help with a career as a marketing professional. This student is absolutely right. Now that I think about it, I find it surprising this hasn't occurred more often... read more

Well, had my first lesson through Wyzant the other day. I was definitely a little nervous. Nagging doubts in my mind like "I talked the talk, will I walk the walk?" Well, I felt very relieved afterward. Student was a joy to work and speak with, looking forward to some more sessions down the line. Location was convenient as well. Turns that the both of us work right in the vicinity... read more

He's a good teacher!!! — I went from a person who never had an opportunity to learn on these platforms and he got me up to speed very, very quickly. Short cuts and full out and out discussions of design layout, were all invaluable. He even told me a thing or two about my iPhone. I still make mistakes. I just wish I had a "Nate Button". ...
