I began tutoring by coincidence as the children I babysat for needed increasing help with homework and school. I continued to tutor and lead study groups in college. I went Johns Hopkins University for Undergrad, where I double majored in Economics and Psychology with a Minor in Business. After working for 5 years in Finance, I decided I needed a career change. I am currently student teaching Mathematics in a small private school while finishing up my Masters in Education (I will receive my degree in December from Boston College and shortly thereafter I will be certified to teach Middle and High School Mathematics). I have already passed my licensure tests.
I am have strong background in a variety of math subjects, and I would love to help out any Lower, Middle and/or Upper school students with their studies. I received an 800 on my math SAT and a 680 on my Verbal SAT (out of 1600 since I took it during the times of the old scoring methods). I also took the ACT and earned a 34 out of 36 (99th percentile). I understand the science and the logic behind standardized tests and believe I would be a good teacher for any type of test prep (although the majority of my background is with schoolwork, I have worked with my students on test prep).
My teaching style is largely based on the student. I find it best to adapt to the students needs and am able to provide customized help based on how a student learns and individual areas of frustration. I start by talking to my students about what they like and don't like and try to get a sense of the best way to connect with them, as I believe that makes for a better work environment and leads to positive results.
Please contact me if you have any further questions on my background or my teaching style or if you have any questions. Thanks!
