A pretty fair writer once related that "the pen is mightier than the sword". Being able to communicate through the written word effectively, efficiently, creatively and if the writer so chooses, passionately, is a powerful talent that a person can utilize in any corner of the world, every day of his or her life. The horizons are endless and encompass academic performance at every level of school, subject testing, standardized testing, college and grad school applications, job applications, the business world and relationships of every kind and level. The writer known for that mightier than the sword quote was known for a few other things and writings as well. His name of course,is William Shakespeare.
While earning my undergraduate degree at Boston College and subsequently earning my doctorate degree in graduate school, and later in the business world, I observed many times the discomfort, lack of confidence, reluctance and even anxiety brought on by the need to write a memo, an e-mail, a term paper, a letter or any piece of writing which required applying pen to paper or fingers to a keyboard. A wide spectrum of people spanning the president of a large corporation, to students I have helped with their college application essays, to business peers to personal friends have told me that I am blessed with the gift of being the best writer they have known.
Through mentoring you and/or proofreading the process of adapting you to the mighty powers of writing, I will help you develop your own style. More importantly this process will transform your discomfort, reluctance and anxiety to a confidence in using the power of your writing in a myriad of ways whether it be objectively obtaining a better grade or an acceptance to an application or subjectively capturing the passions of your feelings and life moments.
I have both a Bachelor's degree and a Doctorate degree. I have also navigated the college application process with my 4 daughters who have graduated from Boston University, George Washington University, University of Rhode Island and Bridgewater State College. In fact my daughters who graduated from BU and GWU received large academic scholarships.
Through the years, I have been asked to write letters of recommendation and/or help students with their application essays to Boston College where I received my Bachelor's degree. I am proud to say that all of those students were accepted by Boston College.
I can also be an asset to high school juniors and seniors in helping them identify local community oriented scholarships which if awarded, can be applied to the college of their choice. Once identified, the high school student and I can work together on his or her scholarship application essay, which is often the most important criterion in the award of the scholarship. Recently, I helped the high school senior son of a friend of mine write several of these scholarship application essays. It was very gratifying to me that Sean received one of the scholarships for which he applied. The scholarship to Sean is worth $2,500/year for 4 years. My friend, Sean's dad, was very happy.
I would like very much, to help other high school students in this process. When it comes to paying for college, every source of revenue and "every little bit helps".
I am certified in English, writing, SSAT, SAT reading and SAT writing among other subjects. My education which includes a doctorate degree, my business experience and my experience as a parent of a son, currently in high school, and four daughters who have all graduated from college, all combine to give me confidence that I can help all level students in all phases of English. Specifically, by all levels, I am speaking of middle school, high school, college, graduate school and ESL.
We will cover book reports, term papers, college and grad school application essays, and take home exams which require subjective writing (middle school, high school, college, grad school, law school).
If you are reading this, you are obviously a high school student who cares greatly about maximizing your college options or you are a parent who shares that goal with your son or daughter. I too have shared those same values with my 5 children for many years. I will always be proud of my 4 daughters who have all graduated with honors from Boston University, George Washington University, University of Rhode Island and Bridgewater State College, as well as for my son who is a high school honor student.
I can assure you that if we partner together, you or your son or daughter, will be well prepared for the SAT in reading AND writing, will maximize your scores and in so doing, maximize your college options. My personal experiences as a parent, my own education which includes a Bachelors Degree and a Doctorate Degree, my certification as a tutor in SAT Writing AND SAT Reading and my gratification in helping high school students get into the college of their choice and strive toward scholarships in that process, all lead me to say... Let's get to work.
You will become a better writer. As we work together in that process, we will focus upon how your improved writing will hugely and specifically impact SAT SCORES. The results will be STRONGER SAT SCORES FOR YOU and ultimately, maximizing your college options.
To the parents of students who are planning on taking the SSAT exam:
If you are reading this, you are obviously a parent who greatly values the education of your child/children. I too, have had the same values for my 5 children for many years. I will always be proud of my 4 daughters who have graduated with honors from college and my son who is an honors high school student.
I can assure you that if you partner with me in behalf of your child, who is planning on taking the SSAT, that he or she will be well prepared, will maximize his or her scores and ultimately, maximize secondary school options. This will also likely extend toward maximizing college options as well.
My personal experiences as a parent, my own education which includes a Bachelor's degree and Doctorate Degree, my certification as a SSAT tutor and my gratification from helping others learn, all combine to provide confidence to my above mentioned assurance to you, from one parent to another.
I will help students with:
(1) book reports, term papers, take home exam essay questions (all subjects, middle school, high school and college)
(2) writing components of all level English subjects (middle school, high school and college),
(3) private high school, college and grad school application essays, and
(4) improving effective writing style for essay portion of all tests and exams.
IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS: Many scholarships are offered by a wide variety of organizations throughout local communities. This is probably true in the community where you live. These SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS WORTH THOUSANDS EVEN TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, strongly consider your essay making your case as to why you should receive the scholarship. Last spring I helped a high school senior with a scholarship essay which resulted in his receiving the $2500 per year scholarship for 4 years. Every "little bit helps". The senior is the son of a very good friend of mine who was very happy. The process and the result were enjoyable for all of us.
