I am an experienced tutor in math, chemistry, and physics, and recently became licensed to teach mathematics in Massachusetts at the high school and middle school levels. I have prior teaching experience in science, first as a TA in graduate school in Colorado, and more recently as a TA at Harvard. In both cases I taught classes in physics and chemistry and helped students with their homework assignments. In addition to my background in math and science, I am also highly knowledgeable in the areas of history, grammar, and vocabulary. I have scored in the 99th percentile on standardized tests and have many helpful test preparation strategies to share with those planning to take the SAT and GRE exams.
My schedule is very flexible, and I'm available most evenings and weekends. My style of teaching/tutoring is structured but also friendly and conversational - I want to make sure you don't just memorize everything but that you actually understand the larger concepts. A key factor in achieving this is motivation - before you can learn anything, you have to *want* to learn. In this regard, I'm pretty good at making even the driest subject matter interesting, whether by relating it to real-world problems, showing how it is relevant to daily life, or sometimes simply by illustrating the value of knowledge for its own sake.
So, give me a try - I think you'll be happy with the results!
