Hi all,

I'm Doug, an expert-level user, and teacher, of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. My technical skills honed through over twenty years of professional Photohshop use encompasses only half of my value to prospective Photoshop/Illustrator students. The other half of my value to your tutoring needs is my ten years of experience teaching both Photoshop and Illustrator to undergraduates, continuing education adults, and privately tutored students.

I love to use both programs and to teach either as well. My energy and interest translates into a productive and fun tutoring experience for my students.

I hope to hear from you!

Doug

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have a Master's Degree in Graphic Design. Such reflects positively on my ability to teach, not just the skills used for Adobe Illustrator, but also the actual application of the program to graphic design problems (and solutions).

My undergraduate degree from RISD in fine arts gives me an additional facet to my teaching skills, that is, I am able not just consider the needs of graphic designers (my profession), I'm also able to cater to the needs and of fine artists in regards to their need for programs such as Adobe Illustrator.

I've used the Adobe Illustrator professionally for over twenty years. My experience with the application stretches back to the very first version of the product. For over ten years, I've taught the use of Adobe Illustrator, at the collegiate level, to both undergraduates and professionals wishing to polish and extend their Adobe Illustrator skills.

My understanding of the program in a print environment runs deep. The world of CMYK+ print is not forgiving of mistakes; mistakes that make their way to final print. I'm able to help students understand, and avoid, such scenarios and subsequent punitive costs.

Adobe InDesign

I have over twenty years of experience in the basis of InDesign's core function, that is, page layout. My qualifications in this area are extensive, I've art directed over seven publications and been a design director for an educational publisher.

Specific to computer design applications for layout, I've used both Quark Xpress and InDesign interchangeably for page layout, again with over twenty years of combined experience in design applications.

My InDesign knowledge is deep, including the ability to program (script) InDesign using Applescript for custom projects.

I'm fully qualified to teach InDesign with the added extensive expertise in InDesign's core function, that is, page layout.

Adobe Photoshop

I have a Master's Degree in Graphic Design. Such reflects positively on my ability to teach, not just the skills used for Adobe Photoshop, but also the actual application of the program to graphic design problems (and solutions).

I have extensive knowledge, and practical experience, in preparing photos for both print and web. Photo manipulation and color correction are specialities of mine. I have deep knowledge of the process of photography ranging from cameras, to lenses, to resolution and other matters that relate to use of Adobe Photoshop in the work flow of professional photographers, as well as proam and amateur photographers.

I've used the Adobe Photoshop professionally for over twenty years.

Good Teacher! — Doug has been very helpful and after just a few lessons he has helped me feel confident I can learn AI in the time-frame we have set up. He is patient and teaches at a pace where the lessons can be absorbed, practiced and learned. He uses mistakes as learning opportunities. I would recommend him for knowledge and teaching ability. ...
