I tutor in beginner arithmetic and English to K-5 students. My most recent experience educating young adults was from September 2010-2011, where I served as a Teacher Assistant in an urban middle school serving the youth who were falling behind. The program that gave me such opportunity was called City Year (AmeriCorps Program). City Year is in a similar category as the Peace Corps, only City Year focuses on the United States. Not only, did I serve some students who were very bright and needed to be challenged in the subject but also served those students who just needed an extra push in the right direction. The ages of the students ranged from 10-13 at the school.
During my time there, I offered the opportunity to take from the curriculum the teacher was using and create my own for those students who were extremely behind. I really appreciated this and learned from it as well as accumulated a wonderful amount of resources. I believe the kind of tutoring I can offer is for those students K-9 who would like to be challenge in Math and English or are in need of just extra help. I would like to disclose that I have ADHD and completely understand parents and young children/adults who struggle with it; with that said, I would like to extend my support to that community as well. I have come across numerous resources to help me and others close to me really meet their potential and succeed.
