I am an expert in the field of teaching and learning, currently an Assistant Professor of Education conducting research on children's learning. In addition to conducting and publishing research, I enjoy working individually with children and adults to help them achieve their potential--it keeps my scholarship "real". I hold a masters in Early Childhood Education and a PhD in Developmental Psychology. I've worked as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach, and educational consultant for over 15 years.

I have taught and mentored students at the elementary, undergraduate, and graduate levels as well as been a member of admissions committees at top rated universities.

A trained reading recovery teacher, I am able to support children's understanding of letter sound relations as well as spelling patterns. I use a variety of research-based techniques including letter name correspondence, elkonin boxes, and others.

Career Development

I've advised students from High School seniors through Master's students in how best to pursue their career goals. This advising has included how to be strategic about choosing courses and networking as well as how to best frame their interests to match the desired positions.

College Counseling

As a professor at a top rated university, I have mentored undergraduate as well as graduate students. I have edited countless papers and have sat an numerous admissions committees. Thus, I know what is likely to get the attention of top schools and the quality of writing they expect.
