I offer academic tutoring and private music lessons.
Every student of mine has unique gifts. In spending time in lessons discovering these gifts, the student has the chance to develop towards their highest potential. My teaching method consists of questions of "Why?" and "How?" I look for the big picture for the student's benefit. Together, we piece together the importance of each individual lesson in the broad scope of everyday life.
My tutor experience reaches a six-year point this year. While doing my undergraduate work at The Hartt School, I worked for Educational Main Street as a tutor in math, English, and music. Afterwards, I served as supervisor for tutors as well as classroom music instructor in elementary schools in Hartford. In between were two terms of Americorps, during which I tutored full time in Hartford working with grades 2 -12. Today, I am working on graduate studies at Boston University.
Specifically in music, I use Kodaly ear training method. Every music student of mine, instrumental or vocal, learns that his or her voice is their first instrument, and must be used to express musical ideas. Instruments are a beautiful extension of the voice. I offer lessons in voice, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, ear training, sight reading, composition, and general music.
