I am currently a tutor at City on a Hill Public Charter School in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Last year, I served as a City Year AmeriCorps member in Dorchester, working at the Neighborhood House Charter School. My previous work tutoring in Somerville Elementary Schools, at the Mystic Learning Center, with Best Buddies and through Tufts Leonard Carmichael Society, as well as my experience these past two years, has enabled me to become comfortable teaching students of all ages and all abilities. My experience working with underprivileged youth and children with learning and social disabilities has broadened my awareness of the education disparities in Boston. However, it has also fueled my belief that all students, given the appropriate support, can succeed. I have been tutoring, students of all ages, in math and English since I was in middle school; however, I have also had ample experience planning and implementing lessons in history, biology, art and a variety of sports. I have a wide variety of interests, which I use to create engaging and interesting lessons. Please contact me for more information. I look forward to hearing from you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've worked as a Math tutor for last 8 years. I took advanced placement math classes in high school and at Tufts.
I worked as City Year Americorps member in Math inclusion class. I'm currently work as an algebra tutor/teacher in a high school in Roxbury. I plan and implement algebra lessons for learners of all ages and ability levels
My education includes a minor from Tufts University in Child Development. While studying at Tufts I also completed research and an internship at Tufts University Elliot Pearson Children's School. Furthermore, I was a teacher's Aide in a 3rd grade classroom and have experience tutoring students from age three to twelve in math, English and science.
I have taken courses on public speaking and have ample experience in the field. I was on a mock trial team for 7 years, which gave me the opportunity to speak in front of hundreds of people, and to come up with arguments on my feet. I have training in speaking clearly and loudly in order to be able to project my voice. Through practice, I have gained confidence in speaking publicly, and have helped many students and teammates do the same.
In high school, I started the program "Best Buddies" at my school. I worked with many students who had different levels of intellectual disabilities. I also was a camp counselor at Young Life Caperneum for two years during which time I worked with students with disabilities on a weekly basis, as well as at an overnight camp. Furthermore, for the past two years I have worked with a lot of students in special education, including students with Aspergers, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome.
