My name is Warren A., and I am a passionate hardworking tutor in high school chemistry, math, and biology. I am a recent graduate of Cornell University with a degree in chemical engineering and a minor in biomedical engineering. While at school, I worked as a peer adviser in the college of engineering for three years. In this program I aided freshmen engineering students with balancing the intense workload with the transition to college life, in addition to offering free tutoring in freshmen classes. I currently serve with City Year where I teach reading and writing in a low income fourth grade classroom.
My approach to learning new topics or reviewing old ones is to focus on understanding the topics, instead of blind memorization. With tutoring, I like to review worksheets, class work, and homework in a given subject as they are the most representative of skills the student must master in order to excel in class. If these materials are not enough to allow the student understand of the topic, I would develop more problems of example in the subject and go over them until understanding is achieved. Additionally I strive to provide the most relevant context to a subject to make it applicable to a student, not just another academic requirement.
