As a child, I developed an affinity towards Mathematics through my father who provided home tutoring for me every day after school. As an Engineer he patiently taught me all the basic concepts and exposed me to solving a lot of problems hence perfecting my knowledge of each topic. While I became proficient in mathematics and naturally chose to study the subject in college, I also learnt how to teach young people from my father. I enjoy teaching mathematics to kids and helping them develop problem solving skills.
My approach to teaching kids is to first of all help them understand the basic information contained in each topic and then solve a lot of problems that will expose them to every possible type of question they will encounter on that topic. We go through these set of problems numerous times until the student becomes an expert in solving them. I enjoy sports (soccer, basketball, football) in a use some illustrations from sports to make teaching fun and also keep my students happy and excited to learn.
I grew up in Africa where I was taught using the very rigorous British curriculum and then I attended college in the US where I learned how to be creative and think outside the box. My goal is to combine both experience and help you overcome every difficulty you might be facing in your mathematics course. I graduated with a 3.84 GPA majoring in Mathematics with a full scholarship. While in college, I spent most of my evenings tutoring other students. Since graduating from college in 2007, I have continued tutoring mathematics and mentoring young kids who aspire to attend top colleges and universities in America through an organization called Sponsors for Educational Opportunities (SEO). I can share my resume and references upon your request. I currently work in the Wealth Management industry and will be glad to help you conquer all your math fears.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have prior experience totaling 5 years in helping kids prepare for standardized tests. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and have also excelled in various standardized tests like SAT ( I received an academic full scholarship for entire undergraduate studies).
I have mastered the techniques of teaching problem solving, quantitative and verbal reasoning, sentence correction and reading comprehension. I also help students eliminate test day anxiety by administering timed practice tests that mimic the actual test environment hence they develop a comfortable level of familiarity with the exam material. This usually helps them improve their score. I look forward to working with students preparing for the ISEE & SSAT.
