Hi! My name is Elena and I graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, with a degree in Computational Biology, a combination of mathematics, computer science, and biology. I was born and bred in Texas and I attended Plano West Senior High School. I love tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds and have been doing so since high school. At Cornell, I volunteered as an after school tutor at several local middle schools and as a private tutor. I have also tutored SAT math and reading and mentored high school students through the college application process. I achieved this through a volunteer program called Let's Get Ready! which was developed by a former student from Yale University. I also tutored calculus I and calculus II for the Cornell Math Department.
I frequently volunteer at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and I have volunteered with the Plano Therapeutic Recreation Program for several years. This program organizes activities for special needs children and adults. I enjoy individualizing each tutoring session to each student and explaining confusing concepts in a clear, easily understandable manner. I think instilling confidence in students is the key to successful tutoring. Every student is capable of thriving in the subject they are struggling in. They just need a strong foundation and a positive, patient person to help them establish that!
In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer, running, baking, reading mystery novels, and playing the violin!
